The current core topics include global cooperation in networks, sustainability and green logistics. Growing environmental awareness and the ecologically sound and resource-sparing organisation of international logistics chains are increasingly important factors in both science and practice.
These are the issues addressed by the BVL working group " Global Logistics - Environmental Protection and Resource Efficiency"
Objective:
Development of solution models for environment-friendly and resource-sparing green logistics (integration of the sustainability principle in the holistic and process-oriented practice of logistics)
Core topics: (important: special focus on int. logistics networks)
1. Ecological impacts and the definition of potential problem areas
- Definition of ecological impact
- Identification of relevant drivers (e.g. legislation, customers, CSR etc.)
- Definition of case-based need for action and identification of problem areas
2. Measurement and assessment of impacts of logistics activities on the environment
- Presentation of instruments and indicators for ecological and economic assessment
- Assessment of processes based on their relevance for logistics; where applicable, definition of needs/requirements for new processes
- Carbon footprint (presentation of known measuring techniques, identification of components and elements of the supply chain as key levers for CO2 reduction
3. Development of measures and solution models
- Presentation and discussion of existing and planned models of the participating companies (e.g. technological and organisational solutions)
- Definition of the role of logistics service providers
- Definition of collaboration approaches between industry, trade and logistics services
The core themes were defined together with the members of the working group in its first workshop at Berlin Technical University on February 20, 2009. The findings of the working group will be published in the literature series "Wirtschaft und Logistik" (Industry and Logistics) in the autumn of 2010.
